postcard story

in november 1955 my father arrived on the edinborough castle liner in south africa...
He came to this country with a small leather suitcase and a Voigtlander camera. I have a photograph of him sitting with a cigarette on this suitcase smiling on the 1/11/1955 on the Braunschweig Bahnhof.

The contents of his suitcase was the following;
Light grey suit, light brown shoes, voigtlander camera, these he bought specially for the trip. Two books ‘Ein Lauschbub in America’ about a boy who emigrated to America on his own and Alfred Kloppenburg ‘Ein besseren findest du nicht’. Some shirts and underwear, toiletries. A KPM mocca tasse, silver teaspoon with Helsinki signage on, a postcard from his sister Dorle of Fuji mountain, she was living in Japan at the time.

So a postcard history started with a postcard from Japan. His collection is remarkable and we have all send postcards home from all our journeys...
